Durris is situated in Aberdeenshire by the hamlet Kirkton of Durris to the south of the River Dee; 4 miles east of Banchory and 14 miles from Aberdeen city centre. The area was once home to Durris Castle, a 13th century royal residence. No remains of the castle exist today, however the knoll upon which it was built retains the name Castle Hill. Much of the nearby area is covered by Durris Forest.
