History of Bridge of Don

This popular suburb is named after the five-arch granite bridge crossing the River Don just above its mouth to the north of Aberdeen. The 19th century bridge was designed by local engineer John Gibb and architect John Smith and first opened to the public in 1830, later giving its name to the suburb of Bridge of Don as the city expanded. The bridge gained listed building status in 1967.

Conveniently located, Bridge of Don is just 10 minutes’ drive from Aberdeen city centre on the A956 making the area an ideal commuter location for those who want to live outside the city, but still be within touching distance of the busy shops and restaurants the city has to offer. Bridge of Don is also serviced by a regular bus service running every 10 minutes at peak time.
